INTERNET CONNECTIVITY VIA LEASED LINE OR DIAL-ON-DEMAND

If your organisation requires Internet and email connectivity then Compute is the specialised corporate internet service provider (ISP) of choice. Always providing a fast, reliable connection, we are able to offer a range of Internet options from basic dial-up to analogue and digital leased lines. Depending on your usage needs we will tailor a solution to suit your particular requirements.  As opposed to ordinary dial-up access, a leased line provides permanent internet connectivity. Email is received in real time and there is no need to dial-up and wait for a connection. Obviously if usage is substantial enough there are considerable benefits but there tends to be a perception that a leased line is expensive.  However, as part of a customised package it can be arranged much more economically than you might think. For example, we can look at buy or rent options for your mail server and this in combination with a support contract for your network and PCs would probably mean you would get connectivity via a leased line, a mail server and regular support all for the same price as you would normally pay for internet access alone.

WEB SITE DESIGN AND HOSTING Like all good marketing material, your web site only works if it achieves your goals. It should be creative and eye catching but at the same time functional, informative and easy to read.  At Compute we combine the necessary creative flair with the technical skills to design and create sites that powerfully achieve all these objectives.

However, it is not enough to have a well-designed site. It must also be situated in the right place so location is all-important.  As a specialist corporate ISP, this is where Compute web site hosting provides the ideal situation. Furthermore, we can also register your company or brand name as a domain and, through our solutions approach we can also provide for all the necessary support, service and security needs you might require.

LAN/WAN PLANNING, IMPLEMENTATION & MAINTENANCE

After the comprehensive needs assessment has been done, Compute will plan, design, install and maintain all your Local or Wide Area Network requirements. We are flexible enough to undertake the implementation of complete networking solutions from scratch or any discrete element that may be required depending on your specific needs. We have the facility in-house to supply all cabling and put in the network infrastructure from cabinets to the actual cat. 5 cableing, points and fly leads.

SERVICE & SUPPORT

For most companies system availability and the minimisation of downtime is critical to productivity. Understanding that downtime costs you money, Compute is able to provide full service and support, either on-site or 24 hour on-line as applicable, on a casual or monthly contract basis. Client support needs are identified during our basic client needs assessment and a specific, cost effective, support package is then tailored to suit your requirements.

Outsourcing monthly support makes economic sense:

VIRTUAL PRIVATE NETWORKING

Because of the increasing need for centralisation in business, the establishment of virtual private networks is becoming increasingly popular. The difference between a ‘private network’ and a ‘virtual private network’ is really the involvement of a third party service provider.   With a private network, only the company in question has access whether it be between desks in a building or between branches countrywide. No other individual or company can access any part of this network. A virtual private network, on the other hand, looks like a private network but because it utilises a third party link or infrastructure such as Telkom or the Internet, it cannot be considered totally private. One of the major benefits of a virtual private network is that it enables a business to create and maintain a centralised database which can be accessed by anyone in the organisation regardless of location. Compute is able to plan, design and implement virtual private networks, on a complete or partial solution basis, by establishing the appropriate connectivity within an organisation locally or nationally.

Compute will also develop the software required to enable you to achieve your specific virtual private networking objectives.

DISASTER RECOVERY & PLANNING (DRP)

One of the greatest nightmares for many organisations is loss of data or connectivity downtime whether it be through a hard drive crashing, theft of equipment, theft of Telkom lines and so on.  Where data and/or connectivity is vital, the importance of having a specific disaster recovery plan cannot be stressed enough. Many organisations do not think this far ahead and it is easy to underestimate the cost of downtime plus the difficulties involved in recovery.

Depending on client needs, DRP can be a 3-stage process:

  1. Basic back-up plan for data recovery in the eventuality of a machine going down or being stolen.

Redundant server duplicating, for example, an organisation’s centralised database.

  2. The third level is a redundant site. This is applicable where the client has a strong emphasis on connectivity to premises. The problem generally arises when Telkom lines are stolen, struck by lightning or affected by flooding.

At Compute we know from experience what is required at each level (even those elements that are not normally considered until it is too late) and will advise, plan and, in the event of a disaster, implement whatever action is necessary.

FAX OVER IP

The traditional method for sending/receiving faxes is to leave the workstation to go to the office fax machine which wastes time and reduces productivity. International statistics state that on average it takes 8-10 minutes to send a fax manually but only 1-2 minutes to send it from a PC. Depending on the number of faxes involved this can amount to a lot of wasted time. In businesses with a lot of fax traffic, sending faxes over the network can result in considerable savings. A further step can involve routing faxes to other national offices or even international offices where they can then be processed and sent out locally thereby saving further costs.

VOICE OVER IP

VOIP is legal – at last. On September the 3rd this year, the Minister of Communications announced the effective deregulation of the South African telecommunications l andscape. This policy change will allow Internet Service Providers, such as ourselves, to deliver Voice Over IP (VoIP) services, a solution whereby voice or telephone calls are carried over traditional Internet connections.

The minister’s announcement has paved the way for the true convergence of voice and data, effectively heralding the eventual consolidation of all forms of communication and allowing for these types of communication to travel over the same infrastructure.

Impact of liberalisation on South African businesses…

The liberalization of the South African Telecoms industry has and will continue to have and extensive impact on not just how we run our businesses but on business operations generally.

There is no doubt that the liberalized market opens up vast business opportunities, but it is equally important to answer a number of questions about this policy shift. Issues such as who is responsible for managing your internal network, the costs of supporting VOIP and hat are the benefits of consolidating your voice and data traffic, should all be carefully considered when contemplating the implantation of a VOIP solution.

We believe that this is a very exciting opportunity for businesses to improve their efficiencies, while saving on call costs and expensive monthly line rental fees. It is however necessary to be aware that the market will be flooded with smaller telecoms operations all aiming to capture a piece of this new lucrative market. Many ISP’s, both big and small, will want to become telecoms providers, carrying both voice and data on their networks while traditional telecoms players will try to capture a portion of the data market. Telkom will most likely jump into the cellular market and cellular companies will enter into fixed line.

In short it will be very difficult for the end users to choose a supplier that can deliver on their claims of cost reduction and even harder to find supplier that are able to deliver reliable, consistent, quality services across both voice and data platforms

Specific considerations…

We would recommend a few key performance areas to keep in mind when choosing a voice and/or data supplier:

As an ISP, we are currently rated amongst the top ISP's in South Africa. We delivery our services via a world-class infrastructure.

This means we are able to offer you:

Thus infrastructure costs will be down, you will save on telephone calls and you will be able to receive it from one supplier that you already know and that has experience in delivering these services, making us the most likely c andidates to survive the consolidation.

DataPro will continue to offer current fixed line data solutions as well least cost routing services, BUT in addition to this we will be able to offer customer the option to purchase their access portion, the physical line, from us.
